Crikey, here is a rare sighting of the college student. It appears to be engaged in what can only be concluded as some primitive sport.  We can only guess as to the cause for such unusual behavior in this creature. What could motivate them to behave such a way?

 What indeed? College kids are without a doubt a unique breed. Able to survive for weeks at a time on cereal, equipped to operate on three hours of sleep for days, and will try anything once. That’s right anything.

 After months of brainstorming and weeks of planning we have finally arrived at the Holy Grail of ideas. But after months of strategizing how did we come about this stroke of brilliance? Let me see if I can explain.

 About a month ago we were more or less ready to throw in the towel. It just felt like it wasn’t in the cards, if you know what I mean. No great epiphany was happening and time was running out. So I guess you could say as a last resort we decided to drown our problems the way any college student would…in Mexican food. It began with a little chit chat, if you know what I mean, about nothing. We threw around a few ideas and then the Mexican food began to have its effect and we started throwing out the really crazy ideas. You know, like human fruit catapults, real due able ideas. Until the idea of Genesis World record was mentioned. Let me say that again a Genesis Book World Record. Not only is this a completely insane idea but also lifelong dream of mine. Who wouldn’t want to be in the Genesis Book of World Record? Exactly. Thank you. So what was this master mind idea? Glad you asked. 

 What would entice college students specifically men to buy Fruit of the Loom? And what would rejuvenate this brand to make it cool in the eyes of college kids?

 I see London I see France, and I see tons of college kids running in their underpants.

 That’s right an underwear run. So there you have it folks our brilliant plan. On May 4^th 2010 we will be having the largest underwear run ever.

According to a British study most men believe there spanks actually do impress the opposite sex. The study showed that from 19-24 men buy up to 31 pairs of underwear a year to impress women. Surprising? Amusing? I find it to be a little of both. Apparently gentleman like to make sure there backside is just as well covered as their A-game when it comes to making women swoon.

The studied also showed after the age of 24 the number of men who bought their own underwear decreased dramatically. It turns out once the ring is on her hand the task of purchasing underwear is off his hands. The study went on to tell how purchase of underwear by men doesn’t pick up again until 38-40 due to divorce and midlife crisis.

Interesting? Who would have thought this whole time the trick to impressing women would be in your spandex?

So what does this mean to us? With this new found knowledge, we have more or less gained comedic inspiration for our campaign. Since this startling discovery we have now decided to direct our campaign for Fruit of the Loom toward men. Let’s face it they just keep surprising us.

No concrete campaign ideas have been laid down just yet, but there not far off. So buy some new underwear. Keep reading. And work on that A-game.

Exactly. The list is pretty short. But, what would make you want to buy underwear?

Would you buy it if a crazy old lady had you laughing hysterically? Or what if some college kids dressed as tags and kept getting in you way, because Fruit of the Loom doesn’t have tags. What if underwear had multiple uses, like as a hair net? Or what about people in underwear writing songs about underwear?

These are just some of our rough ideas. But potential is defiantly coated in there. Its just a matter of going through the millions of almost ideas to find “The One.” This past week and the ones to follow will be spent coming up with the elusive great ideas, in order to find the campaign that will leave the advertising industry begging for more. Once we have some solid ideas in place we are going to start letting people know the “Boom” about Fruit of the Loom.

To some he is a legend. To others a name whispered in hushed tones. But I say he is more. I say he is a comedic god behind a little thing I like to call the super bowl. Maybe you’ve heard of it?

It’s like the Olympics for advertising. The best-of-the-best show up to compete for the commercial that will live for decades to come. This is no mere task mind you. Nay. This is only for the strongest of competitors. This is for the titians of advertising.

But how do these mere writers of wit become legends? A great advertisement is a series of hits and misses. And, before these feet’s of sheer comedic-genius are viewed by the masses they are first scrutinized, torn apart and fine-tuned to become the brilliance that captivates audiences everywhere.

To live up to these standards we are now starting a list of possible feats-of -greatness that could potentially rival that of the legends before us. Possible ideas have ranged from putting underwear on statutes to building a fruit launcher. Exciting. Yes I know. However, these are just the first steps to the running leap were about to take. So no applause just yet.

There is no doubt to live up to this legacy will be a challenge. But it is one we are prepared to take. We have watched these Olympian’s of advertising and now were taking the challenge to add our names to the list of eternal greatness.

We will be the laugh behind greatness.

You first had to find this perfect one. You tried, you hated, you laughed, you danced your way into your favorite pair. It took time, work and failure to get the perfect fit. In a way, you did your research to find the perfect pair of undies to don. And now were going to do our research to find the perfect campaign to wear.

W.S. (Whipper-Snapper) Advertising kicked off with a debriefing of our fruitful client’s history. No matter how rigorous it might be research is the X factor to any winning campaign. Most men for example don’t ever buy their own boxers or briefs. That might not come as a surprise, but did you know some men own underwear up to a decade old? Scary. Needless to say we are slowly becoming underwear trivia buffs. Wonder if that has resume potential?

After tossing some off-the-wall-ideas around and divulging an endless supply of facts we now have not only direction, but a little more history on the general population than we cared to know. There is undoubtedly a unique bond between a person and their spankies.

And no matter what, there is always someone covering your backside.

A little less than two months ago, Whipper-Snapper Advertising was formed. Unlike a typical agency, this will be entirely student run. During the next four months, we will put together an advertising campaign for Fruit of the Loom. Why underwear? Why not? Let me make it brief. After narrowing down a list of possible candidates, Fruit of the Loom was our pick. Who better to explain how to rock the wife-beater and the necessity of tube socks than the walking billboards themselves.
